This symposium addresses a clear and critical gap in the international research landscape. It creates a focused forum for a novel and emerging branch of the broader Thermal Energy Storage (TES) field: TES for industrial process heat in the temperature range of 100-1000+ °C.
Our primary objective is to build a bridge between the distinct but interconnected disciplines of materials research, system integration, and modelling activities.
The symposium’s mission is to accelerate the decarbonisation of industrial heat – one of the most challenging sectors to transition from fossil fuels. We will explore how Power-to-heat systems, coupled with TES, provide a key pillar for achieving energy independence, enabling grid flexibility, and supporting the large-scale integration of intermittent renewable energy sources.
By participating in this symposium, you will have the opportunity to network with global leaders. The symposium’s single-track format, extended breaks, and social dinner are designed to maximise discussion, interdisciplinary exchange, and the formation of new collaborations.

- Late registration: DKK 5000 / €650 (after 1 February)
- Reduced fee: DKK 2050 / €275 (Available for students and early career researchers – defined as less than 7 years since obtaining your highest degree. Documentation required).

The symposium will be held at Langelinie Pavillonen, a historic and well-known venue located by the waterfront in Copenhagen. The venue offers a scenic setting close to the harbour, with views of the city’s maritime surroundings and easy access to central Copenhagen.
Langelinie Pavillonen has been selected for its accessibility for both Danish and international participants, as well as its suitability for our focused, single-track symposium format. Its location makes it convenient for participants arriving from Copenhagen Airport, central train stations, hotels, and other parts of the city.
The venue is situated near several of Copenhagen’s landmarks, including the Langelinie waterfront area, Kastellet, and The Little Mermaid, providing an attractive setting for networking and informal discussions during the symposium.

Call for abstracts
We invite everyone working in the field of Thermal Energy Storage to submit an abstract and contribute to the upcoming TES Symposium 2027. We invite contributions on all topics related to Thermal Energy Storage for industrial process heat.
Key themes include, but are not limited to:
- Case studies and techno-economic analyses of TES in industry.
- Electrification of industrial heat via TES technologies.
- System integration of TES to manage variable electricity prices and intermittent renewables.
- High-temperature heat pumps and electric heaters in industrial applications.
- Materials science and the development of novel materials for high-temperature TES.
- Modelling, optimisation, and control of TES systems for industrial processes.
- The translation of laboratory concepts to deployable, full-scale industrial solutions.
Abstract submission
The abstracts should be submitted by e-mail to tes-symposium@dti.dk and marked as:
TES Abstract 2027 [insert title].
Deadline for submission of abstracts: 1 December 2026.
You can choose between two types of abstract presentations: POSTER or ORAL. Please indicate what you prefer when submitting your abstract. Should your abstract not qualify as an ORAL presentation, you will be offered a POSTER presentation (which you are free to reject).
You will be notified of the acceptance for a presentation or a poster shortly after deadline by e-mail.
Abstracts should be less than one page and follow the template.

Organisers
The symposium is organised by Danish Technological Institute (DTI) in collaboration with the Technical University of Denmark (DTU).
DTI will act as the main organiser and will be responsible for the practical coordination of the symposium, including venue arrangements, registration, and event administration. In collaboration with DTI, DTU contributes to the scientific organisation of the symposium and supports the development of the technical programme.
